“For the past half dozen years or so, I have wandered the valley here every morning before work, looking for wildlife to stalk. Mostly, this has meant walking (somewhat painfully) on big river rocks, as sandy beaches are few. Sometimes, I cruise from one end to the other on my electric bike, but yesterday, I finally pulled out the kayak. The water is low enough now that paddling upstream is very mellow and I feel there is no risk to my camera equipment of dumping, which has kept me from exploring this before. Being in a kayak allows me to get so much closer to the critters in a non-threatening way. It was the most amazing experience! I’ve been up close in a kayak before but never with my camera.
