“MINK
This morning I woke up early and set out to wander the river – walking from one far end to the other and only seeing a single Salmon. As I reached the south end of the valley, I stood on the beach scanning far off in the distance for Otters, but when I saw movement, in the extended lens of my camera, the fur was brown and the critter was tiny and I knew it was a Mink. My first sighting this year! My best encounter ever! I climbed the steep embankment, walked along the road, and then climbed down the big rocks to hopefully head that Mink off and capture a shot. Boy was I surprised when it came out of the rocks just thirty feet in front of me, disappeared, and reappeared just ten feet in front of me! All of my six Mink encounters before this, the Mink has been traveling fast along the river’s edge on the opposite side of the river. Today it was fishing off the rocks right in front of me, diving over and over into the water and swimming deep. We spent several hours together, with twenty minute lulls, as it hid in the rocks, only to reappear again and dive in. This MInk was so tiny!!! So cute!
